Macon is located roughly eighty miles south of Atlanta on I-75, where I-16 branches off en route to historic Savannah. Macon was laid out in 1823, becoming a major cotton port. Today, Macon is known as the “Cherry Blossom Capital of the World, “and offers cultural, educational, social and civic activities for the entire family. The city’s rich cultural heritage is showcased in museums such as the celebratory Tubman African American Museum, the restored Douglass Theatre and the educational Museum of Arts and Sciences. Macon was home to Little Richard, Otis Redding and the Allman Brothers. The city is one of the largest in the state of Georgia.
